Founded: 1989 · HQ: Chandler, Arizona, USA
Microchip Technology is a leading provider of 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers, serial EEPROM, mixed-signal and interface ICs, headquartered in Chandler, Arizona. Formed in 1989 from a spin-off of General Instrument's microelectronics division, Microchip grew through acquisitions of Atmel (2016), Microsemi (2018), SST (2015) and Supertex (2015), making it the steward of the AVR (ATmega, ATtiny), PIC, SAM (ARM Cortex-M), and serial EEPROM (AT24Cxx) product lines. The ATmega328P — the heart of the Arduino Uno — remains one of the most widely deployed MCUs in education and hobbyist markets, and Microchip has committed to its production through at least 2040 under its Longevity Program. Our Shenzhen warehouse stocks ATmega328P-PU (DIP-28) and AT24C02 (SOP-8 EEPROM) from Microchip authorized distribution.

Very much in production. Microchip lists ATmega328P-PU as Active with a Longevity Program commitment through at least 2040. It is one of the highest-volume 8-bit MCUs in history thanks to the Arduino ecosystem, and Microchip has no announced plans to discontinue it.
The PB variant adds an extra USART, an extra 16-bit timer, and a unique device ID, but it relocates some pins and changes the reset pin to also function as GPIO. Firmware written for the 328P may need pin remapping to run on the 328PB. For new designs, evaluate the PB; for Arduino compatibility and existing code, stick with the standard 328P.
Yes — we stock both blank ATmega328P-PU and units pre-flashed with the optiboot bootloader for Arduino Uno compatibility. Specify "with Arduino bootloader" on your RFQ. Pre-programmed units cost slightly more but save you the programming step in production.
Microchip authorized channel currently quotes 12-26 weeks depending on the part and package, with DIP-28 through-hole parts often on longer lead time than surface-mount variants. Our Shenzhen warehouse typically holds 5,000-20,000 pcs of ATmega328P-PU for 1-2 day shipment.
