Which op-amp should I use for a 3.3 V single-supply sensor front-end?
For general-purpose DC to low-frequency amplification, the LM358 or LM2904 works down to 3 V single supply. If you need rail-to-rail input/output for maximum dynamic range at 3.3 V, choose the LMV358 or TLV2372 instead. For precision applications where input offset voltage matters, spec the "B" grade (LM358B, LM2904B) with 1 mV max offset.
What is the difference between an op-amp and a comparator?
Op-amps (LM358, LM2904) are designed for closed-loop linear amplification with internal frequency compensation. Comparators (LM393, LM2903) are optimized for open-loop switching with fast propagation delay and open-collector outputs that can be wire-OR'd. Do not use an op-amp as a comparator — it will be slow and may latch up. Do not use a comparator as a linear amplifier — it has no compensation and will oscillate.
Do you stock industrial-temperature versions?
Yes. LM2904 (-25 to +85 °C) is the industrial equivalent of LM358 (0 to +70 °C), and LM2903 is the industrial equivalent of LM393. For automotive (-40 to +125 °C), we stock LM2904AV with AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification.
What is the MOQ for op-amps and comparators?
MOQ is 2,500 pcs on reel for SOP-8 variants, or 100 pcs loose for prototyping. Cut-tape quantities are available at a small premium.
