The LM2904 is Texas Instruments' industrial-temperature version of the ubiquitous LM358 dual operational amplifier. Electrically it is virtually identical — two independent, high-gain, internally frequency-compensated amplifiers operating from a single 3 V to 32 V supply or dual ±1.5 V to ±16 V supplies, with common-mode input range extending to ground and 1.2 MHz gain-bandwidth product. The critical difference is the operating temperature range: -25 °C to +85 °C versus 0 °C to +70 °C for the LM358.
This seemingly small change matters enormously for automotive-cabin, outdoor, industrial-enclosure and unconditioned-space applications. At -10 °C a LM358 may drift out of specification or fail to start; the LM2904 remains fully compliant. TI's LM2904B variant tightens input offset voltage to ±1 mV max at 25 °C (vs ±7 mV for standard LM2904), making it suitable for precision low-side current sensing.
Pinout, package and electrical behavior are identical to LM358, so any existing design can migrate to LM2904 by simply changing the BOM line — no PCB respin, no firmware change. This drop-in compatibility is why LM2904 has become the default choice in industrial and automotive-adjacent designs even when the extended temperature range isn't strictly required.
Applications mirror LM358: sensor signal conditioning, low-side current shunt amplification, DC gain blocks, active filters, oscillators, and comparators with hysteresis (though for pure comparator work, use LM2903 — the industrial version of LM393).
Fully second-sourced: TI (LM2904, LM2904B, LM2904AV), STMicroelectronics (LM2904ST), onsemi (LM2904DR2G), NXP, and many Asian vendors. All pin-compatible.
Our Shenzhen stock: TI LM2904AIDR (SOP-8) MOQ 2,500 pcs on reel or 100 pcs loose.
Even for commercial designs, spec LM2904 instead of LM358 — the price difference is negligible (<$0.05), and you gain margin for field returns in hot climates or unconditioned storage.
Yes, LM2904 is a strict superset of LM358 (wider temperature range, same electrical specs). Substituting LM358 for LM2904 in a design that will see sub-zero or high temperatures is risky. Always specify LM2904 for industrial and automotive applications.
All same pinout and package. LM2904: ±7 mV offset, standard grade. LM2904A: ±5 mV offset. LM2904B: ±1 mV offset (precision). LM2904AV: automotive-qualified version with AEC-Q100 Grade 1. Choose based on your accuracy budget and qualification requirements.
No. Same as LM358 — input common-mode reaches ground but stops 1.5 V below V+, output swings to within 1.5 V of V+. For true rail-to-rail I/O, use TLV2372 or LMV358.
No, LM324 is a 14-pin quad. LM2904 is 8-pin dual. For quad in industrial temperature, use LM2902 (industrial version of LM324).
Same techniques as LM358: check laser-etched TI logo (not printed ink), verify date code against TI's online checker, measure input offset voltage on a sample (LM2904B should stay under 1 mV; clones often exceed 5 mV), inspect pin plating for uniform matte tin.
MOQ 2,500 pcs on reel for LM2904AIDR (SOP-8), or 100 pcs loose. TI authorized 8-16 weeks; Shenzhen stock 1-2 days.
