Founded: 1987 · HQ: Hsinchu, Taiwan
Winbond Electronics Corporation is one of the world's largest memory chip makers, founded in 1987 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (ticker 2344). Winbond's Specialty Memory business is the global reference for serial NOR flash: the W25Q SPI flash family powers firmware storage in routers, IoT modules, 3D printers, automotive systems, industrial controllers and virtually every ESP32 and RP2040 design that needs external code storage. The W25Q32JV (32 Mbit), W25Q64JV (64 Mbit) and W25Q128JV (128 Mbit) are the standard-voltage (2.7-3.6 V) JV generation, supporting Standard SPI, Dual and Quad output modes at up to 133 MHz, with 100,000-cycle endurance per sector, 20+ year data retention and unique 64-bit serial numbers. Winbond fabricates these parts in its own 12-inch facilities. Our Shenzhen warehouse stocks W25Q32JV, W25Q64JV and W25Q128JV from Winbond authorized distribution, with JEDEC-ID and full-address-space verification on every reel to catch capacity relabeling.
The classic SPI flash fraud: a W25Q32 (32 Mbit) die remarked and sold as a W25Q128 (128 Mbit). The fake answers basic commands, but addresses above the real die size wrap around or read back stale data — firmware images larger than the true capacity silently corrupt. We verify every lot two ways: read the JEDEC manufacturer/device ID (Winbond = 0xEF; W25Q32JV = 0xEF4016, W25Q64JV = 0xEF4017, W25Q128JV = 0xEF4018), and run a write-then-verify pattern across the full address space on samples, which immediately exposes wrapped or aliased dies.
Yes — Winbond Electronics is a Taiwan Stock Exchange-listed company (ticker 2344) founded in 1987, originally spun out of ERSO/ITRI, with its own 12-inch wafer fabs and position among the top global suppliers of NOR flash, specialty DRAM and 8-bit MCU silicon. W25Q parts are designed and fabricated by Winbond; "W25Q" parts not traceable to Winbond's authorized channel are clones, remarked stock or e-waste pulls regardless of what the seller claims.
Voltage generations of the same architecture: JV parts run at 2.7-3.6 V (the standard 3.3 V rail — what most designs need), while FV and JQ parts run at 1.65-1.95 V for low-voltage SoCs. Within JV, the last two digits set capacity: 32 = 32 Mbit, 64 = 64 Mbit, 128 = 128 Mbit. Packages span SOIC-8 (208-mil), WSON-8 and TFBGA-24. All share the same command set, so firmware is portable across capacities — only the JEDEC ID and address map change.
Winbond authorized channel quotes 8-16 weeks for W25Q JV parts. Our Shenzhen warehouse holds all three capacities for 1-2 day shipment. Compatible second sources include GigaDevice GD25Q (drop-in, same JEDEC-style command set, different manufacturer ID 0xC8) and Macronix MX25L (minor command differences). We can quote Winbond authorized plus vetted second sources on the same RFQ.
