The STM32F103RCT6 is the high-density member of ST's performance line: an Arm Cortex-M3 at up to 72 MHz delivering 1.25 DMIPS/MHz, 256 KB of flash and 48 KB of SRAM, packaged in LQFP-64 with 51 I/O. It sits one step above the ubiquitous F103C8T6 Blue Pill, giving four times the code space and more than twice the RAM while keeping the same 90 nm process, the same STM32CubeMX/HAL tooling and a pinout that overlaps the F103 family, so firmware written for a C8T6 usually ports with a linker-script change.
The peripheral set is the reason this part appears on 3D-printer mainboards, CNC controllers and industrial I/O modules. There are three 12-bit ADCs sharing 16 channels with 1 microsecond conversion time and DMA support, two 12-bit DACs, up to eleven timers including an advanced-control timer with complementary outputs and dead-time insertion for motor drive, five USARTs, three SPIs, two I2C ports, a bxCAN 2.0B controller, a full-speed USB 2.0 device interface and SDIO. Operating voltage is 2.0 V to 3.6 V, temperature range -40 C to +85 C for the T suffix, and low-power modes include sleep, stop and standby with a few microamps of draw.
The F103 family is also the most counterfeited MCU franchise in the market, and the RCT6 is a common target because its flash size is easy to fake on paper. Compatible clone dies include CKS32F103 (CKS), APM32F103 (Geehy), GD32F103 (GigaDevice), CH32F103 (WCH) and MMR32 parts; some run faster or have different flash wait states, others fail at temperature extremes. Verification is quick: read the 96-bit unique device ID at 0x1FFFF7E8, the flash-size register at 0x1FFFF7E0 (a genuine RCT6 reports 0x0100, meaning 256 KB) and DBGMCU_IDCODE, then soak-test at 72 MHz across temperature. Physically check laser marking, lead finish and date-code consistency. ST authorised lead times have ranged from 8 to 20 weeks during allocation; MOQ is one tray (250 pcs) or 90 pcs on cut tape, and Shenzhen stock usually ships in 1-2 days.
Require a flash-size and unique-ID readout report with each reel of STM32F103RCT6; it costs minutes per lot and catches the CKS/APM/GD clone-die substitutions that otherwise surface as field failures after months of production.
Same Cortex-M3 core at 72 MHz, but the C8T6 is a medium-density part in LQFP-48 with 64 KB flash and 20 KB SRAM, while the RCT6 is high-density in LQFP-64 with 256 KB flash and 48 KB SRAM. The high-density line also adds a third ADC, two DACs and more timers. The packages are not pin-compatible, so migration requires a layout change even if firmware ports easily.
Yes - CKS32F103, APM32F103, GD32F103, CH32F103 and MMR32 parts circulate with ST-style marking. Read the flash-size register at 0x1FFFF7E0 (0x0100 equals 256 KB) and the 96-bit unique ID at 0x1FFFF7E8, compare DBGMCU_IDCODE revision against the ST revision table, then run a full 256 KB flash walk and a 72 MHz soak across temperature. Clones typically show a different revision code, an out-of-range UID pattern or flash that fails above 128 KB.
Yes. The system bootloader in the factory ROM supports UART, I2C, SPI, CAN and USB DFU. Pull BOOT0 high at reset and flash over UART with stm32flash or over USB with dfu-util. For production, SWD with an ST-LINK, J-Link or DAPLink is faster and gives debug access; consider leaving an SWD header on the board for field recovery.
48 KB is comfortable. A typical FreeRTOS build with lwIP-lite, a USB CDC stack and CAN filters uses 15-25 KB, leaving headroom for buffers and task stacks. If you need more RAM or hardware crypto, step up to the STM32F407 (192 KB) or the STM32F103RE (512 KB flash, same RAM).
GD32F103 parts are code-compatible for most peripherals and often run to 108 MHz with zero-wait-state flash, but they are not identical: some register timings, ADC behaviour and USB details differ, and ST will not support them. If you use GD32 as a second source, qualify it separately, keep the same firmware build and test the full temperature range - or design in a true pin-compatible alternative such as the APM32F103 and re-qualify.
MOQ is one tray (250 pcs) or 90 pcs on cut tape for prototyping; production orders are typically 1,000-5,000 pcs. ST authorised channel lead time ranges from 8 weeks (normal) to 20+ weeks (allocation). Our Shenzhen stock generally ships within 1-2 business days for quantities up to 10,000 pcs, with C-of-C and lot codes supplied.
