Founded: 1960 · HQ: Camarillo, California, USA
Semtech Corporation is a US analog and mixed-signal semiconductor company founded in 1960 and headquartered in Camarillo, California, listed on NASDAQ (SMTC). Semtech is best known today as the creator and sole supplier of LoRa — the long-range, low-power RF modulation that became the de facto global standard for IoT networks, after Semtech acquired the underlying chirp-spread-spectrum technology in 2012. The SX1278 is the classic LoRa transceiver covering the 137-525 MHz bands with up to +20 dBm output and link budgets exceeding 160 dB, enabling kilometer-scale communication at low data rates for smart meters, asset tracking, agriculture sensors and LoRaWAN gateways. Alongside LoRa, Semtech supplies high-voltage interface protection (TVS arrays), wireless charging and signal-integrity products for data centers. Our Shenzhen warehouse stocks the SX1278 LoRa transceiver and compatible modules from Semtech authorized distribution, with version-register and RF screening on every lot.
Yes. Reputable module houses such as Ai-Thinker (RA-01/RA-02) and Ebyte build SX1278 modules with genuine Semtech dies, but the market also contains modules with remarked clone transceivers that fail range and sensitivity specs. We source from Semtech authorized distribution, verify the chip version register (0x42) over SPI, and sample-test RF output power and RX sensitivity on every lot. Bare chips ship with lot traceability and C-of-C.
Same silicon family, different RF front end: the SX1276 covers 137-1020 MHz in one part (used for 868/915 MHz LoRaWAN in Europe and North America), while the SX1278 splits into a low-band PA (137-500 MHz) and high-power PA optimized for the 433/470 MHz bands used in China, India and ISM bands below 500 MHz. Register maps and LoRa modem are identical — firmware is portable; only the matching network and band configuration differ.
LoRa is Semtech's patented and trademarked physical-layer technology. The modulation itself is not standardized by any open body, and genuine LoRa silicon comes only from Semtech (or its licensed partner STMicroelectronics, which co-manufactures LoRa SoCs). Chinese "LoRa-compatible" chips such as the ASR6601 implement the PHY under license or interoperability agreements — electrically they can join LoRaWAN networks, but supply chain due diligence matters. We quote only genuine Semtech SX12xx parts unless a licensed alternative is explicitly requested.
Semtech authorized channel quotes 12-20 weeks for LoRa transceivers, with periodic allocation during smart-metering and LoRaWAN deployment surges. Our Shenzhen warehouse holds SX1278 chip and module stock for 1-3 day shipment, and we can quote volume module orders from authorized module partners at 2-4 weeks.
