Aosong Electronics Co., Ltd. is a Chinese sensor manufacturer founded in 2004 and headquartered in Guangzhou, specializing in humidity, temperature and gas sensors for consumer, HVAC, appliance and IoT markets. Aosong is the original designer of the DHT family — the DHT11 and DHT22 (also sold as AM2302) are the best-known digital humidity/temperature sensors in the maker world, appearing on tens of millions of development boards, weather stations, incubators and dehumidifier controllers. Both sensors combine a capacitive humidity element, an NTC thermistor and a signal-conditioning MCU in one package, outputting a fully calibrated digital value over a simple single-wire protocol, which is why they became the default first humidity sensor for Arduino and ESP32 projects. How do you tell a genuine Aosong DHT22 from a clone?
Clone "DHT22" sensors use cheaper uncalibrated dies relabeled with the DHT name — they typically drift 5-15% RH over weeks, fail the single-wire CRC/parity check intermittently, and show hysteresis after condensation. Genuine Aosong parts ship laser-marked with traceable batch codes and hold ±2% RH across 0-100% at 25 °C. We sample-verify every incoming lot in a controlled humidity chamber against a calibrated reference and check timing compliance of the single-wire handshake on 30-pc samples.
What is the difference between DHT11 and DHT22?
DHT11: ±5% RH accuracy, 0-50 °C range, 1 Hz sample rate, blue housing, lowest cost. DHT22 (AM2302): ±2% RH accuracy, -40 to +80 °C range, 0.5 Hz sample rate, white housing, roughly double the price. Both use the same single-wire protocol and the same Arduino libraries — only the data parsing scale differs. For anything beyond room-comfort indication, use the DHT22; for toys and basic projects, the DHT11 is fine.
